RADICAL WORKERS’ BLOC AT TOLPUDDLE 2019

Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival and rally 2019 Friday, 19th to Sunday, 21st July 2019. View map No stall this year, apparently they were “oversubscribed”. Nah we don’t either, more time to get drunk then.

On the plus side the IWW are back, with a new improved stall run by Dorset branch.

Wob kitchen will run from Friday evening to Sunday lunch, next to the Big Tent; you’ll hardly notice the difference. Wessex Solidarity will make some of our literature catalogue available on the day. We’ve lots of new stuff that isn’t in the reference library as we’re running out of storage space – it hasn’t been updated for years. Why not get in touch now if there’s a subject you’re particularly interested in.

Catering Cadre: Comrade Les, our Wob kitchen chef is offering free training on outside and event catering for Radical Workers and groups who want to feed their members, homeless or unemployed workers in a safe and cost-effective way. Topics including:

  • Basic Health safety and hygiene.
  • Basic budget and Menu planning.
  • Basic dietary requirements.
  • Basic safe use of LPG and Butane gas cookers.

Let us know if you’re interested or come and see us about it at the festival.

Safe Space Policy: “don’t be a dick”.

This year we ask Radical Workers to be especially kind to members of the Prison Officers Association, as they are ever so sensitive, and easily upset by loud noises and rude words.

Bloody hell it was hot! Tolpuddle R.W.B. 2018

Open message to Gabrielle Gifford, motorpoint arena

Subject: The Turkish state killed our mate.
Date: 2018-03-27 11:32

To: gabrielle.gifford@livenation.co.uk, motorpointarenacardiff.sales@livenation.co.uk

Dear Gabrielle Gifford, Dear motorpointarenacardiff sales,

This is to express our outrage that the motorpoint arena continues to host the annual DPRTE festival of death.

Only last week our Comrade Anna Campbell, a stout opponent of these arms fairs was murdered by the fascist Turkish state using munitions ironically procured through just such an event. There is nothing defensive in the way they are used by these unaccountable regimes.

DPRTE has no place in Wales/Cymru with its proud Working Class traditions, exploited as it was for centuries to provide coal and steel for the British imperial killing machine.

Ask yourselves as Working Class people why you are facilitating the indiscriminate slaughter of your fellow workers, alongside school children and hospital patients. You bring shame upon your city – what would Nye Bevan say?

Have a word with yourselves, will you?

I’ve attached a copy of Kropotkin’s Mutual Aid, for your information.

Cindy Callist

As Turkey’s assault on the Kurdish people continues, Saudi Arabia’s war on the people of Yemen worsens and we continue to arm Israel, we really need to make our opposition to the arms trade felt.

The Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff needs to know that this ARMS FAIR (disguised by the name DPRTE) is not wanted in Cardiff or anywhere else. The event, proudly advertised on their website as ‘The Defence Procurement Event of The Year’, has BAE Systems as one of its main exhibitors, the same company who supplies Saudi Arabia with all the weapons it needs to bomb the defenceless country of Yemen.

Let’s overwhelm them phone calls, emails, Twitter and Instagram messages telling them this. Keep it polite, just state clearly your opposition to the event. You can also leave a message on their FB page.

Solidarity demo, Cardiff Crown Court, Monday 23rd October, 2pm.

Cardiff Crown Court, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3PG.

We are calling for support and solidarity for a good comrade and tireless anti arms trade activist who is on trial for direct action against the Cardiff arms fair. This woman could not stand by while arms dealers furthered their profits by marketing mass murder. Instead of acceptance she chose resistance and did all that she could to disrupt the death dealers. She is very clear that her actions were necessary to prevent greater crimes but the judge has ruled that such a defence is not admissible. Evidently they won’t allow their courts to be used as a means to turn the tables and put the arms industry on trial. Now our comrade faces prison as the state seeks to make an example of her and discipline us all. It is crucial we stand together. Join the demonstration to show that she is not alone. Bring banners, placards and noise. Solidarity is our weapon and our best defence.

The Defence Procurement, Research, Technology and Exportability (DPRTE) took place at the Motorpoint arena on 28th March this year. It is an opportunity for the arms industry and government representatives to conduct their murderous “business as usual”, leading to the arming of brutal regimes everywhere with all the latest tools for repression and wars. It was forced to move from Bristol in 2014 as a result of determined demos and actions and activists in Cardiff and beyond are aiming to do the same there. Get involved and help shut them down next year!

Protest Unoliaeth, Llys y Goron Caerdydd Parc Cathays, Caerdydd, CF10 3PG Dydd Llun y 23ydd o Hydref 2pm

Rydym yn galw am gefnogaeth a unoliaeth i gymrodor da ac ymgyrchydd diflino sydd yn y cwrt am weithredu’n uniongyrchol yn erbyn Ffair Arfau Caerdydd. Ni all hon sefyll yn ddiymadferth tra bod y sawl sydd yn prynu a gwertu arfau yn pellhau eu elw gan farchnata ladd ar raddfa ddiwydianol. Yn lle derbyn y sefyllfa fe dewisiodd hi i frwydro nol a gwneud popeth yn ei gallu i ymyrryd ar waith y sawl sydd yn elwa o’r diwydiant arfau. Y mae hon yn glir iawn bod ei gweithredoedd yn angenrheidiol i atal troseddau gwaeth ond fe wnaeth y barnwr benderfynnu bod y fath amddiffyniad ddim i’w glywed. Nid ydynt yn barod i ddefnyddio’r llysoedd i rhoi y diwydiant arfau yn y doc. Nawr y mae i’n gwynebu carchar tra bo’r wladwriaeth yn ceisio gwneud esiampl ohoni a dysgu gwers i ni i gyd. Mae’n hanfodol ein bod yn cyd-sefyll. Ymunwc y brotest i ddangos nad ydi hi ar pen ei hunain Dewch a banneri, placardiau a swn. Unoliaeth yw ein harf ni ac ein amddiffyniad pennaf.

Cynhalwyd yr “Defence Procurement, Research, Technology and Exportability” (DPRTE) yn arena y Motorpoint ar y 28fed o Fawrth y flwyddyn hon. Mae’n gyfle i’r diwydiant arfau a chynryciolwyr o’r llywodraeth gynnal eu diwydiant ffiaidd, yn hwyluso diwydiant sydd yn arfu gladwriaethau sydd yn lladd eu pobl gyda’r teclynau diweddaraf ar gyfer gorthwm a rhyfel. Cafodd y ffair arfau ei orfodi o Fryste yn 2014 ar ol protestidau a gweithredoedd chwyrn a mae ymgyrchwyr yng Ngaerdydd a thu hwnt yn ceisio gwneud yr un peth. Ymunwch a’r ymgyrch i gau’r ffair arfau yma y flwyddyn nesaf!

End Toxic Prisons Tour Dates & Details

All over the world prisons are toxic environments causing social and ecological harm. Folks from the US have been organising resistance at the intersection of mass incarceration and the environment, successfully delaying the only current Federal prison construction for over 2 years!

Through grassroots organizing, advocacy and direct action they have been challenging the prison system which is putting prisoners at risk of dangerous environmental conditions, as well as impacting surrounding communities and ecosystems by their construction and operation. Learn about their strategy and tactics, as well as broader struggles of prison abolition, anti-racism, and environmental justice.

Information will then be shared about resistance to the six new mega-prisons in England and Wales, which themselves are proposed for toxic sites, including radiological contamination and asbestos pollution, as well as habitat destruction at every site. Learn how you can get involved!

Day of Action Against Youth Prisons

The Empty Cages Collective is calling for actions in solidarity with the Australian campaign against youth prisons, Shut Youth Prisons Mparntwe.

First nations people and non-Indigenous people from around Australia have called for an International Week of Action at the end of September to shut youth prisons and end deaths in custody. We want to strengthen their action and bolster their message, whilst also raising awareness about the traumatic reality of our own youth prison system. The UK call-out can be read here.

Two events are taking place in London on Friday September 29th to support the Week of Action:

Please get along if you can and share the events online!

STOP THE CARDIFF ARMS FAIR COMMUNICATIONS BLOCKADE #5 NA I FFAIR ARFAU CAERDYDD DEFNYDDIWCH EICH LLAIS #5 Facebook event

Tell the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena what you think about them hosting the DPRTE arms fair. Join us in asking the Motorpoint Arena not to host these dealers in death.

Please remember that the people dealing with your call or message are unlikely to have had anything to do with the decision to host the arms fair, and most will just be trying to make a living, so please be polite when putting your views across.

Below are various contact details for the arena, if you have any others, please let us know and we’ll update the event to include them. You don’t have to wait until Wednesday to be heard, but let’s try and get as many people as possible calling and emailing on Wednesday 🙂 This is one of many escalating comm’s blockades (unless the arena decide to pull the plug – fingers crossed!)
