Pie & mash embarrassment in Pompey.

Halloween came early to Pompey on Saturday via the ill-fated pie & mash (fash, get it?) group, sometimes called south coast resistance, formerly Portsmouth EDL. After a no show in Southampton last week that wasn’t worth reporting, the fascists announced they were cancelling their demo in the city to support an event in Telford. A community ‘stand up to racism’ demo was called off. As the Telford manifestation is not until next month, Portsmouth Antifascists smelled a rat, and mobilised 30-35 comrades just in case. It seems the babylon weren’t deceived either, maybe pieash have got an informer in their midst, or perhaps once filth have booked their overtime there’s no going back, anyway the antifascists were heavily pigged all morning. The Guildhall steps were occupied, to deny the fascists their favoured photo opportunity.

After an hour of watching paint dry, a dozen more cops appeared, escorting eight heavily refreshed youths in halloween masks, carrying a flag that appeared to depict a chicken eating a poppy with the caption: ‘lest we forget’. Forget what exactly? They stood, or swayed, for a full ten minutes, perhaps having forgotten the theme of their rally, they confined themselves to shouting personal abuse at a few locals presumed to be amongst the opposition, against whom they hold grudges. The only political content was a bit of seig heilling.

Plod then led them to the Surrey Arms (1-3 Surrey St, Portsmouth PO1 1JT), where they remained.

Why do we bother? Unlike the fash, we’ve got lives, but we won’t let them get away with anything. It’s all very well shouting “stand up to racism”, “refugees welcome” and “black lives matter”, but if those groups are subject to the indignity of being abused by these arseholes in our community, it’s our responsibility. They may be a bunch of drunken inadequates but the ideology they promote, and the people they idolise: Hitler, Mussolini, Franco etc, were responsible for about sixty million deaths in living memory. They shall not pass.

Call for the latest telephone blockade of Laibaz restaurant, Bolton – Saturday September 3, 6pm-10pm – 01204 227 649.

solfedManchester Solidarity Federation’s dispute with Laibaz restaurant in Bolton continues and we would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the successful blockades on July 23 and August 6 & 20. After the last blockade, SF members covered the centre of Bolton, including Laibaz, with posters demanding the owner pay what he owes.

As a reminder, a number of former employees at Laibaz are owed wages for hours worked and holiday entitlement. The owner, Sunar Alom, has paid workers at an hourly rate below the minimum wage and has failed to provide pay slips. Sunar Alom has also failed to provide P45s when workers have left their jobs at Laibaz. He has yet to enter into dialogue with us to resolve this dispute, refusing to pay the monies owed, and insisting he has done nothing wrong.

Manchester Solidarity Federation’s campaign is aimed at recovering all the monies owed and ensuring that Sunar Alom acts within the law and treats his employees with more respect in the future. The campaign now includes postering / leafletting in the vicinity of Laibaz, as well as poor reviews of Laibaz on Trip Adviser (see below).

The campaign therefore continues with another phone blockade on Saturday September 3, aimed at preventing “take away” orders. We again request that you repeatedly phone Laibaz on (01204) 227 649 any time between the hours of 6pm and 10pm in order to block the line and prevent take away orders getting through.

Should you get through to the restaurant, we ask that you put the phone down and redial, or state “pay the workers what they are owed” and then redial. Remember that the person who answers is most likely another worker, not the owner, so please do not be abusive or hostile towards them.

We are now also asking supporters to leave poor reviews of Laibaz on Trip Adviser [click here]. Please do not directly mention the dispute in your review or it will probably be removed. Instead, make a generic complaint, for example about hygiene standards or the behaviour of the manager or disappointing food / service. Sunar is known to frequent Trip Advisor regularly to read reviews and seems to be paranoid about bad reviews.

Please support us. This kind of contempt for workers is growing in Britain and has to be challenged. We also ask that you spread the blockade to as many of your contacts as possible and to ask them to do likewise.

AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL

Pie and mash go nowhere in Portsmouth.

Having failed to make a significant nuisance of themselves in Bristol or Swindon, internet fantasist group Pie and mash squad began making online threats against a family-friendly Stand Up To Racism meeting at Portsmouth Central Library. Portsmouth Antifascists decided to mobilise just in case – imagine our surprise then, to hear the fascists had asked the police to facilitate a counter-protest! Their demo consisted of half a dozen well-known idiots drinking in the nearest wetherspoons, (the Isambard Kingdom Brunel, but never mind, they’re all the fucking same) surrounded by a larger number of cops. As the meeting drew to a close, about 30 locals surrounded the pub to keep them there while the attendees dispersed, Matthew Woods protesting that they were ‘just having a drink after work’. They all got on the blower and eventually another four fascists arrived, who giving us a wide berth, quick-marched behind police lines to join their colleagues, the expression on Martin Jackson’s face really needed to be seen! Eventually the cops herded them back into the pub and we went home. The following day the Pie and mash farcebook page disowned the hapless pompey mob.

They did, however feel the need to bang on about it at some length, eventually blaming it on the EDL. What a waste of time

Rat-infested Wetherspoons closed.

By our restaurant correspondent, Roland Butter.the Albany Palace in Trowbridge

Wetherspoons’ pub the Albany Palace in Trowbridge was closed for half an hour last night after a diner complained that a rat ran up his trouser leg and stole one of his chips. – From Western Daily Press

Reece Coombs, from Trowbridge, was out with his partner Lucy Wrenn. “It felt like somebody had kicked me, then a rat ran up my leg and took the chip out of my hand and bolted,” staff immediately cleared the pub, without telling other customers why they were getting kicked out mid-meal. Ms Wrenn said: “All we got was a refund, which was going to be a part-refund for the food we were waiting on, until I saw about the rushed drinks and incomplete, potentially contaminated starter we had,”.

It’s believed the rat had escaped from the kitchen.

Is Wetherspoons going down the crapper at long last? The group’s shares fell 9% they claim as a result of the meagre increase in the minimum wage. Multi-millionaire boss Tim Martin, a big fan of the zero-hours contract has always whinged at the prospect of his staff making a living. He hates our class with a vengeance and would ideally like you to pay VAT on food as well so he can compete with the supermarkets. If you encourage the bastard he’ll end up owning everything then he can squeeze your wages and ram up the prices at the same time.

If you’re planning on taking someone special out for Valentine’s, best steer clear of the ‘spoons or you won’t get laid.

D.J.s cancel gig at racist Cameo club.

cameo2The Playmaker Group’s D.J.s Seani B & DJ Ace were scheduled to appear at the Cameo on New Years Eve. In view of the club’s racist door policy they have decided to cancel their performance and make the following statement:

“As two black men who have active careers in a high profile arena, we believe we need to act upon our beliefs. It is impossible to ignore these seemingly growing number of cases which are seeing the backbone of the music we love – the audience, and in particular young black audiences – being denied the opportunity to enjoy it as other members of the audience.

With that in mind we do not feel we can put our name to an event at a venue where – had we have been audience members – we may not have been welcomed. Celebrating our culture with those who help to bring it to life is very important to us, particularly in clubland, and selective door policies based on race does nothing to enhance that culture. It is with this in mind that we have decided not to appear at Cameo in Bournemouth on New Years Eve 2015. We wish all club goers of all races a very Happy and safe New Years raving.”

Wessex Solidarity:

We deplore this malignancy in Bournemouth, which harks back to the days not so long ago when black artists appeared on stage but were not allowed through the front door. It doesn’t surprise us though. The obsessive, paranoid racism of yesteryear has been revived by an entertainments industry that has always smudged the line between neoliberal capitalism and organised crime. It survives only by sucking our class dry, and selects its clientele every night from a pool of willing victims to maximise the fiscal yield from every square foot, whilst our communities pick up the pieces and bear the burden of the attending social problems.

Capitalism can no more provide us with safe and rewarding entertainment than clean air and water. We must take our own spaces and make our own, working class fun, squat party anyone?

Racist club unmasked in Bournemouth: boycott cameo!

cameo2We have reports that ‘cameo’ nightclub (map) in Bournemouth is operating a racist ‘colour bar’. Last night a group of black customers were turned away despite having paid in advance for a table booked two weeks previously. The party had all given their names with the booking but crucially the management didn’t know they were black. We call on comrades in the Bournemouth area to close this establishment down.
