It Wasn’t the Fire, Nor the Girls, It was the State

Voices in movement

On March 8, 2017, 41 girls were burnt alive in a state-run facility for children in San José Pinula, Guatemala, after years of denunciations against abuse and the deplorable conditions in the facility. Now the state seeks to criminalize those who survived.

It wasn’t the fire, nor the girls #ItWasTheState #FueElEstado

In 2017, the Guatemalan state, with abandonment and violence, burnt alive 41 young girls in the Hogar Seguro Virgen (Secure Virgin Home) in San José Pinula. For three years the government has evaded justice and criminalized the survivors. Now the government is accusing the survivors of fifteen crimes.

The compañeras mobilized on March 7, 2017, to denounce the deplorable treatment and dreadful conditions in which they lived. In response, they were confined and burnt alive by the Guatemalan state. The state now is accusing the survivors of a series of crimes.

The court hearings have been suspended more than eleven times. Relatives of the survivors have disappeared and been assassinated. The state has tried to erase the girls from our history, robbing their memorial from the central square. As part of the strategy to silence them, obstruct justice and seek impunity for the criminals responsible, lawyers of the government have filed a complaint to limit the surviving girls’ participation, to revictimize them, to again put their lives at risk.

A just world does not burn its girls alive, leaving those responsible unpunished. Today more than ever, we are pushed forward in the quest for justice and the assurance that this will not happen again. We are with the survivors and the families. We have not abandoned them.

Support antifascist prisoner David Campbell and anti-ISIS prisoner Aidan James

Cautiously pessimistic

David Campbell, a New York-based antifascist, is starting an 18-month sentence after being convicted of “gang assault”, a charge that sounds similar to the notoriously terrible principle of “joint enterprise”, allowing people to be convicted for someone else’s actions. To make things a little easier while he’s inside, you can donate money here, send him a message using this form which his friends will print out and pass on to him, or pick something off his very extensive reading list (or even choose a book you think he’d like that’s not on there) and order a copy to be sent to:

Bristol , 25 October 2019. Shut down BAE and MBDA. Stop arming fascism!

Join us at the gates of BAE and MBDA to demand an end to the supply of arms to the fascist Turkish State.

Golf Course Lane, Filton, BS34 7QS

BE THERE FOR 7AM! Workers arrive early and we want them to hear what we have to say.

At 4pm on October 9th, the Turkish occupation army and its Islamist allies began their long-prepared war of aggression against the liberated areas of northern Syria. Turkish military forces have carried out serious violations and war crimes, including summary killings and unlawful attacks that have killed and injured civilians. BAE and MBDA, with offices in Bristol, supply arms to Turkey.

In 2017, BAE agreed a £100 million deal with the Turkish Air Force to develop a new fighter jet. Theresa May signed a special export license to ease the process of selling these weapons to Turkey. In January 2018, a deal was finalised between the Turkish government and EUROSAM for a new missile programme. EUROSAM is a joint venture between MBDA Missile Systems and Thales.

Message from the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Southampton

Dear All

Two upcoming events to tell you about:

Firstly: Thursday 24th October at the University of Southampton room 2005 at 6pm Talk by Professor Haim Bresheeth One State in Israel and Palestine. Professor Bresheeth’s work is a major contribution to the way forward for Israel Palestine. A quote from Professor Bresheeth:

“Most of my family was destroyed in the holocaust – in different concentration camps and in the Warsaw ghetto and I was born in a refugee camp in Italy immediately after the war… I’m not saying this in order to elicit some sympathy because this is nonsensical on this audience [mostly Jewish] obviously. I’m saying this in order to explain why its so easy for me to understand the Palestinians in Gaza and in the rest of Palestine. It is very easy for me to understand them because they live in a combination of a concentration camp and Warsaw ghetto for so many years that we have stopped counting”

For tickets go to eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/one-democratic-state-in-palestineisrael-a-talk-by-prof-haim-bresheeth-tickets-76948782881

DayX – The moment has come – The war has started!

Internationalist Commune

A few hours ago the fascist Turkish state started its occupation operation on the liberated territories of Northeast Syria.

Turkish war planes attack the towns and villages of Serekaniye and Gire Spi. Qamishlo, Derik and many other places along the border are under heavy artillery fire. The self-defence forces of the Democratic Federation of Northeast Syria are responding to the attacks of the hordes of fascists with severity, hundreds of thousands of fighters and the civilian population at their side are ready to fight to the end. The situation is clear, we call for global resistance.

Declaration of the Internationalist Commune:

DayX – The moment has come – The war has started! We call to RiseUp, to defend Rojava

The imperialist forces have decided to go to war. The troops on the ground are waving the flags of Turkey and of the Islamic State, but the decision was not only made in Ankara but also in the palaces in Washington, Moscow, Paris and Berlin.

Since the beginning, the Revolution in Rojava as been an internationalist revolution. A revolution not only to free the Kurdish population in Syria, but also the Middle East from the centuries of colonialism, oppression and dictatorships. And it has been an internationalist Revolution, because many internationalists joined this revolution, on the front line against the Islamic State and the Turkish fascism, we helped in hospitals, planted trees and worked to build up a democratic, ecological society, based on the liberation of women. And many revolutionaries joined the struggle all over the world, because the revolution in Syria has shown to all of us, that another world is not just theoretically possible, but it’s actually being built up in everyday life.

Today the moment has come, to show what we have built in the last years of comradeship and internationalism all over the globe. Today the moment has come to put internationalism once more into practice by defending the revolution, and through this, we will defend our hopes, wishes and our dreams.

Even if we are standing against the second biggest NATO army, with thousands of islamist gangs as their cannon fodder we know that behind this revolution millions of revolutionaries, friends, sisters and brothers are standing. And with all of of them, with all of you, we will increase our political protest to the level of political resistance, until there are no more weapon exports to Turkey, until the Turkish fascist regime is defeated.

Indigenous Mapuche Community of Pancho Marivil Dos Continue Territorial Recuperation (Wallmapu, Chile)

Voices in Movement

This communique comes from the Indigenous Mapuche community of Pancho Marivil Dos, who are in the process of recuperating their ancestral territories on the outskirts of the city of Labranza, Chile.

September 28, 2019

The community of Pancho Marivil Dos is once again entering the estate, “La Montaña,” usurped by the settler, Jaime Muro Cuadra. Currently the community is exercising their right to their traditional territories, carrying out a process of ancestral territorial recuperation. The community has the duty and necessity to recuperate the territory, to continue being Mapuche. If they do not, large land owners will negotiate with construction companies and will begin urbanizing the territory adjacent to the communities. These territories, on the outskirts of the city of Labranza, a few kilometers from Temuco, are already overcrowded. The Mapuche people are losing their life based on the land due to the expansion of cement, pollution, smog, noise and all the other things of which the city entails. This includes the loss of the countryside, along with the loss of sacred spaces like the ancient cemetery where our Kuifi rest. Thus, the community is obligated to carry out the recuperation of their ancestral territory, to give continuity to Mapuche life in the countryside. On the land, with the nguilaltuwe, paliwe, orchards, farms, animals and hills. We must take care of the environment at all costs against the intervention of the capitalist and large landowning companies that profit, exploit and deteriorate Mapuche territory.

We make a call to everyone to be attentive to the development of this process of recuperation and reconstruction of the Mapuche Mongen. During recent months, there have been grave episodes of repression against the Peñi and Lamgen who are exercising their right to their ancestral territory through legitimate struggle.

Support, show solidarity, accompany, struggle, resist and recuperate! For the continuation and development of the weychen all over Wallmapu!!!!

With this communique we want to make clear that the community of Pancho Marivil Dos will not compromise before false proposals and negotiations on part of the business sector.

Out with the large landowners!

Out with forestry, real estate, hydroelectric plans and all projects that seek to take our Wallmapu.

Freedom to all of the Mapuche political prisoners. Wewaiñ!
