Homeless are doing it for themselves in Bournemouth.

Occupy Bournemouth is back, with a homeless sanctuary encampment opposite the B.I.C. on Exeter Rd.

There is a kitchen with hot and cold food, tea and coffee, a campfire, medical tent, music, and room for lots more people in a safe enclosed space. This is a voluntary grassroots initiative, no cops, council, church or state involvement. As of today there are spare tents and an abundance of food and clothing kindly donated by locals. If you’re on the street tonight we urge you to come down, eat and get some rest, join in, help out as you can.

Right now we need volunteers more than things, but tarpaulins, tents and building materials would be welcome, firewood, straw for a compost toilet, and if anyone’s got a serviceable generator, or can fix the one on site, that would help.

The first eviction attempt is planned for the 2nd of January so we want everyone and their aunt on site first thing. If you aren’t working that day please come and support the camp, the greater the numbers, the more relaxed the day will be.
