Anti-Fascist Network

Saturday saw anti fascists across the world answer the call from Greece Antifa for a show of solidarity. So far reports of solidarity demo’s happening have been received in Greece from London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, Bristol, Cork, Dublin, Derry, Barcelona, Ossona, Manresa, La Garriga, Bilbao, Lyon, Brussells, Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, Tampere, Warsaw, Vilneous, Moscow, Chicago, New York, Montreal, Toronto, Sydney, Canberra, Buenos Aires, Oslo, Cologne, Nicosia, and Paris.

All in all a good day for anti fascism, especially in London where around 200-300 gathered in the cold outside the Greek embassy (Sorry to those reporting much higher numbers, but the AFN does not exaggerate or lie, this is a figure that many involved in the network thought was about right).

UAF did a good job getting their supporters out, but unfortunately treated them to speakers including Labour MPs  Jeremy Corbyn and David Lammy – like the Labour party doesn’t give immigrants a kick when it…

How many friends do the Golden Dawn have in England?

We can confidently report that the answer is twelve.

All over the world today, antifascists, militant and liberal, answered the call out from Greek Antifa for an international day of action against the take over of their society by the Golden Dawn, an old-fashioned genetic-Nazi organisation.

Despite the crappy weather, a static demo called by the Greece Solidarity Campaign outside the Greek embassy was attended by a healthy 200 plus socialists and anarchists with representatives of the Greek and other communities. News that a counter-protest was planned by a group variously calling itself ‘British Friends of the Golden Dawn’ or ‘England’s Golden Dawn’ attracted about 60 militant anti-fascists.

By midday there was no sign of the fash at their assembly point but eventually a dozen weirdos, complete with Nazi tattoos, a Greek flag, and a modified Union Jack, were escorted by the plod into a tiny little pen and back to the tube again, making themselves look utterly ridiculous in the process. This is the absolute lunatic fringe of Britain’s far right, check out their Facebook page if you don’t believe us, proper barking, biting yer ankles mad, one wore a Union Jack gimp mask.

As people peeled away from the demo to tell them off, the slaphead with the sunglasses conducted the chorus of disapproval with his pointy finger, the chubby ginger lad gurned a lot, the one woman looked near to collapse. British fascists carrying a Greek flag, easily outnumbered by real Greeks! You couldn’t make it up.

Eventually the UAF ‘smash fascism’ contingent noticed that some actual fascists had arrived and interrupted the speeches briefly to point this out, then carried on as if nothing had happened. A Greek squatter solidarity group unfurled a banner and the police started to misbehave.

Last Wednesday to Thursday, Sahtzat Loukam, a Pakistani migrant, 27 years, was killed by two Greek people. It appears that these two people belong to the Golden Dawn. This is the first time the Greek police are investigating the killing of a migrant by someone who belongs to the Golden Dawn. In the last two years, 800 Pakistanis have suffered racist attacks in Greece; five of them were killed.

Solidarity appeal for Bristol antifascist.

AFA1As reported in the Westcountry Mutineer, a Bristol man has been found guilty of multiple counts of assaulting a policeman during last July’s massive anti E.D.L. protest. One of thousands of locals and antifascists who successfully defended their multicultural community from 300 racists under the protection of the police, our comrade has been left to foot a bill of over £1,000.

Anyone who’s been in court will be aware that facts don’t feature prominently in the judicial process; the ‘assaulted’ officer admitted that he couldn’t be sure the accused was responsible, then alleged that he ‘punched his hat off’. Duty solicitors failed to submit photographs (featured in Vice magazine) clearly showing Mr Plod wearing his hat throughout the proceedings.

A district judge who sat in on the magistrates’ hearing disallowed testimony from two witnesses purely on the grounds of their membership of the Anarchist Federation. Whilst two cops contradicted themselves and each other the judge concerned himself with criticising the lifestyle and politics of the defendant.

Various groups are having a whip-round to pay his fine. If you, your group, or your union branch could donate – no matter how much – please send a cheque made out to Anarchist Federation, to:

Anti-Fascist Network

After hearing that antifascists and Greek folks living in the UK will be Holding a solidarity demo outside the Greek Embassy this Saturday (19 Jan) groups such as the EDL and Casuals United have made plans to counter the demo, and will turn up in opposition, to show solidarity with the classically fascist Golden Dawn party of Greece. It seems strange that these creeps have spent the last couple of years whinging that they are not fascists, or Nazi’s, and now they publicly support a European Party that is both.  Time for antifascists of all denominations to unite and shout it from the fucking rooftops, In solidarity with Greece Antifa’s – Against UK Fascist Scum.

Not in my back yard.

NIMBYs have a tendency to react with shock and surprise when they find there’s a bigger world out there and such proved the case with the Swanage flavour of this species on January 13th.

Apparently those nasty Eneco people are going to plonk a bloody great wind farm about 9 miles off the coast of Swanage, spoiling their sea views; of course it would be much better installed on someone else’s patch and it’s all a con and a conspiracy and inefficient blaah blaah blaah.

Of course Eneco are capitalists, and whilst we would prefer that sustainable energy was a resource built, owned and run by the community it will serve, and free at the point of delivery, that ain’t gonna happen right now.

Meantime the planet continues to cook and Dorset continues to get away with putting bugger all into the national grid, freeloading off of the working class communities that live in the shadow of coal, gas, oil fired and nuclear power stations in other parts of the UK.

Imagine the look on their faces when hoards of fluffy greenies turned up at their little ‘we don’t want a wind farm in our twee little town’ demo on the 13th to put the case for sustainable energy, with windmills, carnival dragons, colourful kites and all the rest of it. The look on the collective NIMBY mug was priceless and their link hands protest, having been cobbled together by the usual hi-tech methods of shop window displays, word of mouth and a paragraph or two in the local rag was thrown into total disarray. They didn’t quite know how to deal with rightfully angry counter-demonstrators who forced them to look at such ungainly things as livid jugglers and musicians entertaining them.

Still, when their megatoff tory MP, man of the people Richard Grosvenor Plunkett-Ernle-Erle-Drax (WTF!) turned up to dry their tears, reassuring them that their little bit of the planet was exempt from trying to arrest the effects of climate change, they felt a bit better and had a good shout at the fluffies who just juggled and sang a little more.

The NIMBY wannabe toffs retired to their clubs and bars, and discussed the fact that world was bit bigger than they thought it was; maybe they’d better widen their world vision and stop marrying their cousins if they are to have any stake in the future.

Statement from the Crutch Collective re: Co-op and Atos.

We don’t think it is a co-incidence that the Co-Op have made their statement 3 days before a communications blockade and pickets. Thanks to the individuals and organisations that invited 3200 to the communications blocakde, the 400 who signed up to take part and the dozens who were planning to take part in the pickets. Thanks also to the individuals and organisations who contacted the Co-Op over the months. We will be discussing what to do next over the next couple of days, but unless there is clear evidence that Atos is still part of the bidding process under a different name, we will be calling off the communication blockade and pickets. We will be figuring out other ways to target Atos economically using similar tactics in the future.
